EIB injects €17.5M to expand EV charging in Greece and Cyprus by 2029

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved up to €17.5 million in financing for Joltie SA to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Greece and Cyprus. Backed by InvestEU, the project will add 2,200 charging points by 2029, strengthening sustainable mobility and supporting EU climate goals.

EIB financing for Joltie SA

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide up to €17.5 million in long-term venture debt financing to Joltie SA, a Greek operator of electric vehicle charging points. This funding aims to accelerate the development of public EV charging infrastructure across Greece and Cyprus, ensuring better access to sustainable mobility solutions.

Backed by InvestEU for clean mobility

The financing, supported by the InvestEU programme, will help install around 2,200 new charging points by 2029. By boosting reliable infrastructure, the project will contribute to the decarbonisation of road transport, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and driving the EU’s sustainable mobility agenda, particularly in cohesion regions where infrastructure gaps persist.

Alignment with EU green transition policies

This initiative is fully aligned with the InvestEU objective of “Future Mobility”, the EIB’s Climate Bank Roadmap, and its Transport Lending Policy. It addresses market gaps, accelerates EV adoption, and fosters innovation in sustainable transport. It also supports EIB priorities such as Climate Action, Cohesion, and Capital Markets Union, while being consistent with the TechEU initiative for fast-growing companies.

EIB statement on sustainable transport

EIB Vice-President Yannis Tsakiris emphasized the bank’s commitment:

“Our partnership with Joltie will boost EV charging infrastructure in Greece and Cyprus, making electric mobility more accessible and affordable. Backed by InvestEU, this financing will catalyse private investment and strengthen local capacity for climate action.”

Joltie’s role in Southeast Europe

Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Attica, Joltie combines the manufacturing of charging equipment with the operation of its EV charging network. The company has already installed one third of Greece’s charging points and operates more than 500 chargers across Greece and Cyprus. With EIB support, Joltie will expand coverage to regional cities and Greek islands, strengthening its position in Southeast Europe’s fast-growing EV market.

Joltie CEO on the partnership

The company’s CEO highlighted the impact of the investment:

“Electromobility is not the future—it is already here. The EIB’s support validates our integrated model and speeds up the creation of a high-availability charging network. Our goal is to offer real convenience and choice for drivers in Greece and Cyprus while supporting a cleaner everyday life.”
