The COP29 Presidency has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at accelerating global progress on climate action. As COP29 approaches, the Presidency seeks to supplement the formal negotiated agenda with a broader range of initiatives that address the world’s most pressing climate challenges.
The COP29 Action Agenda covers a wide range of priorities, including energy, finance, agriculture, cities, human development, and the climate-peace nexus. Many of these initiatives, such as the Baku Initiative on Climate Finance, Investment and Trade (BICFIT) and the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience, are designed to address cross-sectoral synergies.
The Presidency is also working to establish platforms, partnerships, and programs to enable action before, during, and after COP29. Finance is a central focus of the Action Agenda, with initiatives designed to deliver the means of implementation.
The COP29 Presidency has developed the Action Agenda in collaboration with partners around the world, including the UN Task Force for COP29, international organizations, national governments, and non-state actors.
