KEY 2025: Italy’s Energy Transition Expo Breaks Records in Rimini

The Rimini Expo Centre is primed to host KEY – The Energy Transition Expo, a pivotal event for the future of energy in Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean region, from March 5th to 7th. This year’s edition marks an unprecedented expansion, with over 1,000 exhibitors, a 20% increase from 2024, and more than 30% international participation.

The event’s global reach is further solidified by the presence of approximately 350 hosted buyers and delegations from over 50 countries, facilitated by collaborations with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), and numerous industry associations. Notably, North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, and Eastern Europe will be heavily represented, highlighting KEY’s influence in the international energy transition.

High-Profile Opening Ceremony and First-Day Agenda

The expo will commence with a grand Opening Ceremony at 12 noon on the Main Stage of the Lorenzo Cagnoni Dome (South Hall). Key figures such as Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti, President of the Italian Exhibition Group, Michele De Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Anna Montini, Rimini City Councillor for Ecological Transition, and Paolo Arrigoni, President of GSE, will address attendees. Following this, at 2:45 PM, the KEY ENERGY SUMMIT will feature institutional greetings from Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG, and insights from Gianni Silvestrini, President of KEY’s Technical-Scientific Committee. A highlight will be the presentation of the Althesys study, “Decarbonisation and Competitiveness: From European Policies to Italian Industry. Strategies for a Sustainable Energy Transition Aimed at Growth,” by Alessandro Marangoni. A subsequent panel discussion will involve leaders from Assoesco, FIRE, H2IT, Coordinamento FREE, Motus-E, Elettricità Futura, ANIE, Federidroelettrica, ANEV, and Italia Solare, culminating in reflections from Paolo Arrigoni and Minister Pichetto Fratin. The first day will conclude with the Lorenzo Cagnoni Innovation Award ceremony at 5 PM, recognizing outstanding start-ups and exhibitors for their contributions to energy sector advancements.

Unprecedented Growth and Enhanced Exhibition Layout

The 2025 edition of KEY – The Energy Transition Expo distinguishes itself through its integrated and transversal approach, fostering cross-sector collaboration and innovation. This year’s record-breaking scale is supported by a redesigned exhibition layout, spanning 90,000 m² across 20 halls, four more than in 2024. The event is structured into seven specialized areas: Photovoltaics, Wind Energy, Hydrogen, Energy Efficiency, Energy Storage, E-Mobility, and Sustainable City. To improve visitor flow, the West Entrance will be opened alongside the South and East Entrances.

A significant expansion is seen in the Hydrogen area, now featuring HYPE – Hydrogen Power Expo, organized in collaboration with Hannover Fairs International GmbH (HFI). Furthermore, the introduction of Su.port – Sustainable Ports for Energy Transition highlights the expo’s focus on maritime sustainability and offshore wind development. Hall A5 will also host a dedicated space for Federcostruzioni, reinforcing KEY’s role as a multidisciplinary hub for sustainable development.
