ECOMONDO 2025 KICKS OFF: Research, Innovation And Circular Economy Drive The Global Green Transition

Ecomondo 2025 has officially opened its doors in Rimini, gathering global leaders, innovators and institutions to drive the ecological transition. With over 1,700 exhibitors and 200 conferences, this edition reaffirms Italy’s central role in sustainable development and green innovation.

The 28th edition of Ecomondo, Europe’s flagship event for the green, blue, and circular economies, officially opened on 4 November 2025 at the Rimini Expo Centre. Organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), the event runs until 7 November, hosting policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers from around the world.

This year, Ecomondo confirms its global scope with over 1,700 exhibiting brands, 18% from abroad, 380 hosted buyers from 66 countries, 30 official delegations, and 90 international industry associations. The event spans 166,000 m² of exhibition space across 30 halls, featuring a rich program of over 200 conferences, 70 of which are coordinated by the Technical Scientific Committee.

A Global Hub For Green Economy And Knowledge

Opening the event, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti, President of IEG, emphasized Ecomondo’s role as a world benchmark for those competing in global green economy markets.

“Ecomondo represents a moment of pride, sharing and cultural growth in sustainability. Over the past two decades, we have seen an entire supply chain emerge here — with strong international participation from Africa, the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe and Latin America,” he stated.

He highlighted the institutional support from Italy’s Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Italian Trade Agency, as key drivers of Ecomondo’s global success.

Rimini: A Capital Of Sustainability And Innovation

For Jamil Sadegholvaad, Mayor of Rimini, Ecomondo’s importance lies not only in its size and reputation, but also in its educational and cultural mission.

“While environmental issues often spark ideological divides, Ecomondo demonstrates how technology, creativity and industry can build a better relationship between humanity and nature,” he noted.

Michele De Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, described Ecomondo as “a laboratory for the future where sustainability becomes business, innovation and employment. It enables us to face the great challenges of our time—from climate change to resource conservation and clean energy.”

Science And Policy For The Ecological Transition

Fabio Fava, Coordinator of the Technical Scientific Committee, stressed that this year’s program provides the “enabling ingredients” for implementing the circular economy and ecological transition more effectively.

Over 80 international experts guarantee scientific rigor across sessions focusing on industrial supply chains, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable resource management.

Jacopo Morrone, President of the Bicameral Ecomafia Commission, underlined the need for synergy between environmental protection and economic growth, citing new areas such as emerging waste management—from photovoltaic panels to end-of-life wind turbines—as essential to leaving “a better environment for future generations.”

The States General Of The Green Economy 2025

Immediately following the opening, Ecomondo hosted the 14th edition of the States General of the Green Economy, organized by the Sustainable Development Foundation in partnership with MASE and the National Council for the Green Economy.

This year’s discussions revolve around the state and prospects of Europe’s ecological transition in a complex global scenario. Notably, for the first time, a plenary session in English will take place on 5 November, further reinforcing Ecomondo’s international reach.
